The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme is a dog training program which promotes socially acceptable dogs and responsible dog owners. It is a non competitive scheme and open to dogs of all ages and breeds, whether kennel club registered or not. Â Â
Bronze
The Bronze scheme is aimed to produce a dog that can walk and behave in a controlled manner on lead. Will stay in one position on command and allow the owner to clean groom and inspect their dog all under control, etc.
Training will occur 1 day a week for 7 weeks and on the 8th week a test will carried out by an approved independent kennel club examiner to gain certification.
Silver
Silver – this will build upon the skill learned in bronze whilst increasing the level of difficulty. Providing the handlers with a good level of understanding and training their canine companion e.g. safely travelling in vehicle, coming back when called with distraction and greeting strangers politely, etc.Â
Training will last 1 day a week for 7 weeks and on the 8th week a test will carried out by an approved independent kennel club examiner to gain certification.Â
Gold
This is the highest level of achievement and will complete controlled walking off lead, staying in one place whilst handler goes out of sight, stopping the dog in an emergency stop and accepting food and treats politely, etc.Â
Training will last 1 day a week for 7 weeks and on the 8th week a test will carried out by an approved independent kennel club examiner to gain certificiation.
